About
David Blackaller’s work refers to a variety of things: walking in the landscape, of
routes taken, of paths and tracks, of fields, rivers, and hedges. The work also hints at less
tangible things: rhythms of walking, of looking, and of shadows and light.
The works have a sense of stillness and lightness, and they possess a calm, meditative quality.
There is a delicacy, but also a sense of substance and significance.
He does not intend the works to relate to any particular time or location, but rather to embody
something of the character and quality of places he has walked —
mountains in southern Spain, the Outer Hebrides, vast open plains in Morocco
and meandering hill tracks in the Peloponnese, Greece.
